Why Use Ethernet First Mile?
Businesses still using broadband for Internet access have to endure the ever-increasing effects of contention - the varying performance due to sharing that takes place within the network. Ethernet First Mile internet leased lines have a direct ethernet connection from your business to the local telecoms exchange. The connection is not shared with other users or businesses in your area, and you therefore get the full data bandwidth all of the time. |

How Much Faster than ADSL?
Our leased line services are available in a variety of fixed bandwidth speeds from 2MB to 100MB. EFM connections typically provide up to 20 MBps bandwidth for internet access. All EFM and leasedline services have zero contention, and therefore performance and bandwidth speed are guaranteed. |
|
What about upload speeds?
The EFM leased line service is fully synchronous. The same bandwidth is provided in both directions for EFM internet service connections, making large file transfers and VPN networks fully achievable at low cost.

Why not use Bonded DSL?
Bonded DSL, particularly Bonded ADSL services typically share the connection to the exchange with other businesses and users in your locality. Bonded DSL will increase the internet bandwidth available, however the increase is minimalized particularly when the ADSL contention ratio is high. For instance, a 20:1 Bonded ADSL delivering 10 MB/s can potentially be reduced by a factor of 20 if all users are connected simultaneously. In a 20:1 contended case your ADSL would at times only deliver 500 kb/s. |

What about old internet
Megastreams and Kilostreams?
Our leased line replacement services allow you to upgrade and improve your current Megastream and Kilostream leased line connectivity. What's more, our costs are per-end only. Megastreams and Kilostreams typically have a rental cost based on the distance between locations. This is not the case with our leased line service. |

Support for VoIP
EFM Ethernet First Mile connections can support business telecoms services such as VoIP between phone systems, internet IP devices and SIP Trunks. Zero contention also means that you can guarantee voice quality far better than with business ADSL lines, and the low bandwidth of VoIP calls will not effect the overall operation of data traffic. |
